Seinfeld Introduces Boston to Bees

It seems like forever since Jerry Seinfeld was making headlines. But he’s back in the “Bee” form with his new animated flick Bee Movie.

Seinfeld hit the hub last night to promote it and Boston Movie Tours was on tap for the exclusive event at the Loews Boston Common. The place was buzzing as Seinfeld arrived to the red carpet treatment (To be accurate, it was actually a black carpet for the proper black/yellow bee theme).

Before seeing some sneak peak clips, Seinfield gave a five minute intro/standup act. We learned he’s happy in fatherhood and having three children is like having the blender on with no top. It so reminded me of the great days of the Seinfeld show.

So what about the movie about bees? Director Steve Hickner introduced a whole slew of scenes about the story of a Bee who finds life outside the hive. It looks like it will be a huge blockbuster. I know I will be taking my 4 year old son to see it opening weekend. Let’s just hope he doesn’t try to make friends with bees in real life :).

One final Seinfeld story. As we were entering the theater, I was walking next to Seinfeld and we were both wearing similar pink shirts and dark blazers. Someone mentioned to him how we were dress similarly. As if he were going to write a stand-up skit about it, he kind of paused and said something like not really in that disagreeing Seinfeld voice. I could see this being a topic of some future Seinfeld skit he does so well. Then again, writing jokes about nothing and about the small details of life is what makes Seinfeld Seinfeld.

Thurs - On Location with the Pink Panther

A Boston suburb called Chelsea is getting a little taste of France this month. The producers of the Pink Panther 2 with Steve Martin are taking full advantage of the Massachusetts tax credit by building a full French movie set in an empty warehouse off of the Revere Beach Parkway next to Home Depot.

Boston Movie Tours got a chance to go on location to check out some of the filming and it truly is an amazing sight to see this type of shooting done here in Massachusetts. Rather than film on location in France, the set along with various Boston exteriors will fill in for France.

To give you an idea of the scale, the parking lot is filled with at least 15 film trucks and the inside has various stages set for filming.

We were lucky enough to take a quick picture with Steve Martin. Pictured here are Chelsea’s finest Will Brizuela and Sammy Mojica along with Boston Movie Tours founder Jeff Coveney.

Bachelor No. 2 Joins Boston Movie Mile

We had several reports today of Bachelor. No. 2 stars Dane Cook and Jason Biggs being filmed jogging on the Boston Common which is part of the Boston Movie Mile.

Several of our guests got glimpses of these stars en route to our 2pm tour. We tour a special detour by the site on the tour but were a little late. Hopefully we'll catch them while on tour later this week. This movie location hunting stuff is a little like fishing...there one minute, gone the next.

Art Heist Caper Comes to Town in November

According to today's Boston Herald, another major motion picture is coming to Beantown in November. The Long Maiden is a comedy set around 3 security guards who devise a plan to steal artwork at the museum they work at. William H. Macy, Morgan Freeman and Christopher Walken are set to star in the flick.

For Walken, this is his first Boston flick. Macy appeared in A Civil Action in 1997. But for Freeman, this will be his 5th Boston appearance. Others include Glory, Amistad, Dreamcatcher, and Ben Affleck’s upcoming Gone, Baby, Gone.

Steve Martin Making 4th Boston Movie

Currently filming in Boston, Steve Martin is making his 4th appearance in a Boston movie in the Pink Panther 2. Martin’s other Boston Movies – Out-of-Towners, House Sitter, and The Spanish Prisoner.

Today, the Pink Panther 2 crew is over at the Wang Center which is being used as a sound stage. I am not exactly positive filming is going on today but they are definitely working on the set.

An interesting tidbit on the movie is it takes place in France. Boston is just filling in for France as the filmmakers are taking advantage of the Massachusetts film tax incentives. Although this Boston made flick may be high on laughs, it will be very low on Boston flavor.

Hollywood Hits Old South Church

Bachelor No. 2 with Dane Cook, Kate Hudson, Alec Baldwin and Jason Biggs moved steps away from last week’s filming location (Copley Plaza Hotel) to shoot at the historic Old South Church. It was a little weird seeing everyone dressed in wedding attire on a Monday afternoon; but that’s Hollywood.

Just around the block next to the Boston Public Library was the location of the star’s trailers. No sign of them there though.

Boston Movie Tours was on location and luck enough to grab a couple of pictures including one of Cook wave to the crowd while entering the church (No, he’s not giving the finger.)

Boston local Cook will also be at next week’s Boston Film Festival promoting his Good Luck Chuck movie.

Location of the Day: Bachelor No. 2 and The Women

In the first time in recent memory (and maybe ever), two major movies are filming steps away from one another in the Copley Square area. Dane Cook’s Bachelor No. 2 is using the Copley Plaza Hotel for a several day shoot of a prom scene. You can see from the pics that the room is covered with black cloth to control the internal light.

With an all female cast starring Annette Bening and Meg Ryan, The Women is filming today at the 33 Restaurant and Lounge. Rumored not to have a single man in the cast, this remake of George Cukor's 1939 film looks to be the ultimate chick flick.
