On Broadway Hits DVD

Finally, On Broadway is ready for general public viewing. After making its way through the film festival circuit, the movie was just released on DVD. So for all of you that keep emailing me "Where can I find this movie," I am happy to point you to the big shopping mall in the sky called Amazon.
If you are a Boston local, I highly recommend the movie. It's a good heartfelt flick about a writer trying to get a play made. Read my original review here. Besides a ton of local references, numerous locals are attached to the flick including Joey McIntyre, Mike O’Malley, Eliza Dushku and Robert Wahlberg.

In Boston, "On Broadway"

T
here is nothing better than seeing a movie filmed in Boston, about Boston, using Boston actors. It's not too often that a great movie having all of the qualifications crosses our cinematic paths, but coming next month, On Broadway will hit the screens of Boston. Being called "the Next Good Will Hunting" by those who have screened the movie, all of us here at Boston Movie Tours are excited to see the film.

On Broadway tells the story of Jack O'Toole (played by New Kids on the Block's Joey McIntyre), a 30-something Boston everyman, who writes a play about his dead uncle as a way to reconnect with his own, embittered father. With no money, no know-how, and only his gut to guide him, Jack mounts the play on the only stage he can afford: in the back room of a neighborhood pub, on a little street called Broadway. In this humble setting, Jack uses his story of love and loss and laughter to unite his family and friends, demonstrating the power of the individual to create community, and the role that stories play in bringing people together and shaping our sense of identity, and of the possibilities that lie in every life.

The film also features Will Arnett, Amy Poehler, Mike O'Malley, and Robert Walhberg.

On Broadway will have its theatrical release in and around Boston on March 14, 2008 and will host its premiere on Wednesday March 12, 2008 at the Regal Fenway Stadium 13 in Boston as a charity screening and auction with proceeds to benefit The Joey Fund

The upcoming theatrical release comes after a highly successful year on the international film festival circuit, during which On Broadway took home high honors from festivals in the US and Ireland.

Definitely check this one out!

On Broadway World Premiere

Just got back from the sold out world premiere of On Broadway at the Boston Independent Film Festival. Some of the actors including Robert Wahlberg and writer/director Dave McLaughlin were in attendance and answered some Q & A. I got a chance to chat briefly with Dave after the movie and I could tell he was beaming with joy. After all, the movie did get a standing ovation at the end.

On Broadway is about a Boston playwright played by Joseph McIntyre (New Kids on the Block) who stages a play at local pub. The story simmers a little bit at the beginning before completely sucking you in. On Broadway is heartfelt, inspiring, warm and funny with some terrific dialog. And it has a ton of Dunkin Donuts, MBTA and Red Sox references to give it the proper Boston flavor.

For an independent movie, it has a pretty good cast including McIntyre, Eliza Dushku (Tru Calling), Will Arnett (Blades of Glory), Mike O'Malley (Yes Dear) and Robert Wahlberg.

So where can you see it you may wonder? Well, according to McLaughlin, On Broadway is off to the independent film festival circuit in hopes of getting picked up by a major studio for wider distribution. So the answer is probably sometime in the next six months either on DVD or at the theaters.

The Next Good Will Hunting?

The world premiere of On Broadway will take place at the Boston’s Independent Film Festival in late April. Boston Magazie recently characterized local indie flick On Broadway as the next Good Will Hunting.

This indie film starring Joey McIntyre, Robert Wahlberg, Mike O'Malley and Amy Poehler from Saturday Night Live is about a playwright who stages a production of his work in the back of an Irish pub.
